The Transition
of Wealth

Our name is a nod to the community on a small Florida island where residents gather at the shoreline to marvel at the transition from day to night during the “Amber Hour.” We believe wealth management should be met with that same sense of peace and awe. We bring a high touch approach to your wealth management without the expense of a large institution. We position ourselves as the go-to point person for all your financial needs for the entire family.

We are a boutique firm working with a limited number of families nationwide. We do not sell any products and adhere to a strict fiduciary standard. We believe aligning on your side of the table produces the right environment to achieve your goals. Our primary goal is to help educate and explain complex financial concepts to you in an easily understandable context. That way YOU feel confident that YOU are making the best financial decisions.

Our logo represents three pillars to wealth management.

Like the enduring mountain, we provide structural integrity for your wealth plan — a foundation that weathers every season and protects what matters most.

Chris Chorlins

Founder & Private Wealth Advisor

"I built Amber Hour to provide the clarity and dignity every family deserves during their most impactful decision points."

Chris Chorlins, CFP®, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with deep roots in wealth management, built across more than two decades serving high-net-worth individuals and families at some of the industry's most respected firms. He began his career as a Financial Consultant at PNC Investments and a Trading Specialist at Wells Fargo Advisors, before joining Edward Jones as a Financial Advisor where he served clients in a variety of advisory and home office roles.

Chris later served as Director of Investments and Client Strategy at Greenway Family Office, where he led investment research and coordinated the full planning experience for ultra-high-net-worth families — work that earned the firm's acquisition by MAI Capital Management in 2020. It was through those years of hands-on family office work that Chris developed a conviction: the families who navigate life's greatest financial transitions with the most clarity are those with a deeply trusted, single point of accountability at their side.

That conviction became Amber Hour. Chris founded the firm to deliver institutional-quality stewardship with the warmth and personal accountability of a true family advisor. His education reflects that same blend — a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an MBA in Finance and Management from Washington University in St. Louis, giving him both the human insight and technical rigor his clients deserve.

Away from the office, Chris is an engaged community member who coaches his son's youth hockey and baseball teams, and serves on the board of the St. Louis County Library Foundation. He volunteers as a holiday helper for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery and the Red Cross Angel Tree program each year. His personal passions — live music, St. Louis sports, and exploring new destinations around the world — give him a richness of perspective that shapes how he thinks about life, legacy, and what truly matters.

Common Questions

When should I begin estate planning?

The best time to begin estate planning is now, regardless of age or asset level. The moment you have dependents, real property, or a business interest, a formal plan protects what you've built and ensures your intentions are honored.

What is the difference between a financial advisor and a wealth manager?

A financial advisor typically focuses on investment management and retirement planning. A wealth manager takes a broader, holistic view — coordinating investments, tax strategy, estate planning, and family governance into a single integrated plan. Amber Hour Private Wealth operates as a fiduciary wealth manager.

How does wealth transfer work across generations?

Multi-generational wealth transfer involves a combination of trusts, gifting strategies, beneficiary designations, and heir education. Effective transfer planning minimizes estate taxes, preserves family harmony, and ensures each generation is prepared — not just endowed.

What should I do after receiving an unexpected inheritance?

Resist the urge to make major financial decisions in the first 90 days. Secure assets, consult a fiduciary advisor, understand the tax implications, and develop a clear picture of your full financial situation before taking action. Clarity before velocity.
